Terms of Service
Effective and last updated: October 20, 2026
1. About Squiggle and these Terms
Squiggle is a whiteboard that draws a diagram while you talk. It turns what you say (or type) into a diagram, saves your boards, and lets other people watch a board live through a viewer link. We call the website, the web app, viewer links and everything else we provide the “Service.”
The Service is operated by Code By Level LLC, a California limited liability company (“we,” “us” or “our”). These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a contract between you and us. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and applies alongside these Terms.
2. Acceptance
You accept these Terms when you create an account, use the Service, or open a viewer link. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service for a company or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
3. Who can use the Service
- You must be at least 13 years old. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we will close it and delete the child’s data.
- If you are 13 to 17, you may use the Service only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms and is responsible for your use, including any charges.
- You must not be prohibited from receiving the Service under applicable law, and you must not have been removed from the Service by us for a violation of these Terms.
4. Your account
You can sign in with an email address and password, with a one-time sign-in code we email to you, or with your Google account. Give us an accurate email address and keep it current, because we use it for sign-in codes, verification, receipts and notices.
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Keep your password and your email account secure, do not share your credentials, and tell us right away at [email protected] if you think someone else has access. If you want to work with other people, use a team (Section 5) instead of sharing a login.
5. Teams
Every account has a personal workspace. You can also create or join a team workspace. Your personal workspace stays separate from any team you join.
- Owners and admins of a team can invite people, remove members, change roles, and manage the team’s plan, seats and payment method.
- All members of a team can open, present and edit the team’s boards, and can see who else is on the team (including their email addresses) and the team’s pooled usage.
- Boards created in a team workspace belong to the team workspace, not to the person who created them. If you are removed from a team, or leave it, you lose access to its boards.
- People who invite others, and the team owner who pays, are responsible for whom they invite. Invitations expire after 7 days.
If you are invited to a team, the team’s owners and admins decide whether you stay on it. Your use of the team’s boards is subject to these Terms and to any rules your team sets, and the team is responsible for the content in its boards.
6. Plans, billing and cancellation
Free allowance. New accounts get a limited allowance of live minutes at no charge. When it is used up, the AI stops drawing, though your boards keep working, until you choose a paid plan or the allowance is renewed. We may change the free allowance at any time.
Paid plans. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions. Each has a flat monthly price in US dollars and a number of included live minutes per billing period, as shown on our pricing page when you subscribe. On per-seat plans, the price and the included minutes are per seat, and the team shares the minutes. Included minutes do not carry over to the next period.
What counts as a live minute. A live minute is a minute of live presenting: a presenter is connected, the AI is on, and someone has spoken or typed recently. Minutes with no speech or typing for several minutes are not counted. Time spent by viewers watching does not use live minutes. Our usage records are the basis for billing. If you think they are wrong, contact us and we will look into it.
Overage. On plans that allow it, live minutes beyond your included minutes are charged at the per-minute rate shown for your plan, rounded up to a whole minute, and billed through your subscription’s invoices. On plans without overage, the AI pauses when the included minutes run out.
Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each month, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. By subscribing you authorize us, through our payment processor Stripe, to charge your payment method for each renewal and for any overage until you cancel.
Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card number. If a payment fails, we may retry it, and we may pause paid features or move your account back to the free allowance until it is paid.
Taxes. Prices do not include taxes unless we say so. You are responsible for sales, use, value-added and similar taxes on your purchase, other than taxes on our income. Where we are required to collect a tax, we will add it to your invoice.
Price and plan changes. We may change our prices, included minutes or plans. For an existing subscription, a change takes effect at your next renewal after we have given you at least 30 days’ notice by email or in the Service. If you do not want the change, cancel before it takes effect.
Promotions. Promotion codes and discounts are subject to their own conditions and may expire.
Cancel anytime. You can cancel at any time from the Billing page (“Manage plan & payment”) or by emailing [email protected]. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep your paid plan until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then your account returns to the free allowance. Your boards are not deleted when you cancel.
No refunds. Fees are non-refundable. We do not give refunds or credits for a partial billing period, for included minutes you did not use, or for time left after you cancel. Overage and usage charges that have already been incurred are not refunded. This does not limit any right to a refund that you have under applicable law.
7. Your content and our rights
Your content. “Your content” means what you say or type into the Service, the boards and diagrams you create, their titles, and anything else you submit. You own your content. These Terms do not transfer ownership of it to us.
License to us. To run the Service for you, we need to host, store, copy, process, transmit and display your content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to do that, including by sending the necessary parts of it to the speech-recognition and AI providers described in the Privacy Policy. We use this license only to provide, secure and support the Service and to comply with the law. It lasts as long as your content is on the Service, plus the time it takes to remove it from backups and logs.
Your responsibility. You are responsible for your content. You promise that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit it and to let us use it as described here (see also Section 9 about other people’s speech).
Our rights. We and our licensors own the Service, including its software, design, and branding. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service in line with these Terms. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
8. Viewer links
Every board has a viewer link. Anyone who has a board’s viewer link can open it, without signing in, and watch it live. They see the diagram as it is drawn and the live captions of what is being said, and they can look around the board. They cannot edit it.
Viewer links are long, random addresses, and we ask search engines not to list them. They are not password-protected. Anyone you give a link to can pass it on, and anyone who has it can use it. Share a link only with people you are happy to have watching, and do not say or draw anything that you would not want them, or anyone they share the link with, to see or hear.
There is currently no setting to switch off or replace a board’s viewer link. If you need a link disabled, email [email protected] and we will help, for example by deleting the board. You are responsible for who receives your links and for what they can see through them.
9. Speech, and the people around you
The Service uses your browser’s speech recognition to turn your voice into text. In Chrome, your browser sends your audio to Google for transcription; other browsers use their own vendor’s service. We receive the resulting text, not the audio. We send that text, together with a description of the current diagram, to our AI provider, xAI, so it can update the diagram. The Privacy Policy gives the details.
You are responsible for getting permission from other people. If your microphone can hear other people, for example in a meeting, class, call or interview, or if you type what others say, their words are captured, transcribed, sent to the speech and AI providers, and shown as live captions to anyone with the viewer link. Before you use the Service that way, you must:
- tell the people whose speech will be captured and get any consent that the law, your organization or your agreements require;
- follow the laws on recording, transcribing and sharing conversations, which vary from place to place, and some of which, including California’s, require everyone’s consent; and
- stop using the Service if someone objects or does not consent.
We are not a party to your conversations and cannot check whether you have the permissions you need.
The Service is not designed for sensitive regulated information, such as health records covered by HIPAA, payment card numbers, government ID numbers or passwords. Do not speak, type or draw that kind of information in a board.
10. AI output
An AI model decides how to turn your words into a diagram, and a speech-recognition service decides what words it heard. Either can be wrong. A diagram may leave things out, add things you did not say, misread a name, connect the wrong boxes, or look different the next time you say the same thing. Output may also be similar to what the Service gives other people.
Check the diagram before you rely on it, present it as fact or share it. Do not rely on it alone for medical, legal, financial, safety or similar decisions. You are responsible for how you use the output.
11. Acceptable use
You and the people you let in must use the Service lawfully and with respect for others. You must not:
- submit or share content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, or that sexually exploits or endangers children;
- infringe or violate anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
- capture, transcribe or share other people’s speech without the permission described in Section 9;
- probe, scan or test the Service for weaknesses, bypass or break its security or authentication, or access data that is not yours (if you find a security problem, please report it to us at [email protected]);
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code, prompts or models behind the Service, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- scrape, crawl or harvest the Service or its content by automated means, or use automated means to create accounts or boards;
- overload, disrupt or degrade the Service, for example with excessive requests or automated input;
- try to make the AI behave in ways it is not meant to, or use the Service to build or train a competing product or an AI model;
- resell, rent, sublicense or white-label the Service, or give access to it to people outside your team, except by sharing viewer links as described in Section 8;
- create multiple accounts to get around usage limits or the free allowance, or share a login between people; or
- use the Service in violation of export-control or sanctions laws, or if you are in, or ordinarily resident in, a country under comprehensive US embargo.
We may remove content, disable boards or viewer links, and suspend or end accounts that we reasonably believe violate this Section.
Copyright complaints. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with your contact details, a description of the work, the address of the infringing content and a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized. We may remove the content and end the accounts of repeat infringers.
12. Third-party services
The Service relies on other companies’ services: your browser vendor’s speech recognition (Google, in Chrome), xAI for the AI, Google for Google sign-in, Stripe for payments, Resend for email, and Railway and Cloudflare for hosting and delivery. Their terms and privacy policies apply to what they do. We are not responsible for their services, and parts of the Service may stop working if one of them is unavailable. We may add, replace or remove providers.
13. Changes to the Service
We keep improving the Service and may add, change or remove features, set usage limits, and carry out maintenance. We do not promise that the Service will be available at all times or free of errors. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid plan includes, we will tell you before it takes effect when we can.
14. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. To close your account and have your data deleted, email [email protected]. If you have a paid subscription, cancel it first (Section 6) or tell us to cancel it; fees already paid are not refunded.
We may suspend or end your access, with notice when practical, if you breach these Terms, if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or others, if you do not pay what you owe, or if we stop offering the Service. If we end your account for a reason other than your breach, we will give you reasonable notice so that you can export your boards.
When your access ends, your right to use the Service ends, amounts you owe remain due, and we may delete your content after a reasonable period. Sections that by their nature should continue to apply will do so, including Section 6 (amounts owed), Section 7 (ownership and license) and Sections 15 to 20.
15. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that speech will be recognized correctly, or that the AI’s output will be accurate, complete or suitable for your purpose.
Some places do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim and (b) US$100.
These limits apply whatever the legal theory of the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud or willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law. Some places do not allow certain limits, so some of the above may not apply to you.
17. Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Code By Level LLC and its members, managers, officers, employees and agents from claims, damages, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) that arise from your content, your use of the Service in breach of these Terms or the law, your capture or processing of other people’s speech without the permission required by Section 9, or your violation of anyone’s rights. We will tell you about the claim promptly, and you may not settle it in a way that obliges us to do or pay anything without our written consent.
18. Governing law and venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The state and federal courts located in California have exclusive jurisdiction over any such dispute, and you and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and to venue in them.
Before you start a claim, please email us at [email protected] so that we can try to settle it informally. If you use the Service as a consumer outside the United States, nothing in these Terms takes away mandatory consumer protections of the place where you live.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For a material change we will give notice by email or in the Service before it takes effect. Price changes follow Section 6. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service and cancel your subscription.
20. General terms
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. They replace earlier agreements on the same subject.
- If part is unenforceable. If a part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right right away, we have not given it up.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or duties under these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer ours, for example in a merger or sale of the business.
- No third-party rights. Nobody other than you and us has rights under these Terms.
- Events beyond our control. We are not responsible for failing to perform because of events outside our reasonable control, including outages of internet, hosting, AI, speech-recognition or payment providers.
- Notices. We may give you notice by email to the address on your account, or in the Service. Send notices to us at the address below. You agree to receive notices and sign agreements electronically.
